Unlock A New Workplace: How The ICDA Reveals Employee Sentiments

Protecting the employee experience is more important than ever in today’s turbulent business landscape. Between economic downturns and pervasive global uncertainty, anxiety and stress are running high among teams everywhere. Employees look to leadership for stability, support, and clear communication in times of unrest. We risk alienating our teams and undermining our collective success when we fail to deeply understand and respond to these fundamental human needs.

The Forward Collective Group team knew we could do better, and we believe you can, too. That’s why we are proud to launch our latest whitepaper, drawn from years of insights from our proprietary Inclusive Culture and Design Assessment (ICDA). We developed this employee sentiments report because we recognized that leaders often lack the robust, unfiltered data needed to make effective decisions about their teams.

Explore Under the Surface: Our ICDA Methodology

Employees’ needs and experiences are multifaceted. They represent a complex web of causes, impacts, and interpersonal relationships that require a structured approach to properly unpack. We designed our survey methodology to quantify these connections, offering a comprehensive look at what truly drives team synergy and human connection at work.

Architecture of the Employee Experience

To accurately measure how employees feel and interact, our methodology combines five key perceptions with three critical outcomes:

  • Core Perceptions: We measure belonging, visibility, power and influence, organizational structure, and career pathways. These serve as vital indicators of an employee's subjective experience, revealing the emotional and structural nuances that affect daily performance and engagement.

  • Tangible Outcomes: We link these perceptions to three fundamental human outcomes: Actualized Value, Consistent Safety, and Conflictless Joy. The outcomes evaluate whether team members maximize their potential, feel physically and psychologically secure, and can contribute to the business free from moral tension.

About Human Connection

When we deployed this assessment to over 550 respondents globally across multiple industries, the findings were both inspiring and urgent.

Craving for Alignment and Transparency

The good news is that there is foundational strength in our modern workforce: 77% of respondents believe they belong at their company and 75% feel empowered to do meaningful work.

Deep connection, however, remains a significant hurdle. Communication emerged as a persistent thorn, with many employees reporting a profound sense of isolation from their leaders. In fact, only 58% of respondents feel that their leaders' crisis responses make them feel safe. Our respondents made clear: they crave alignment, direction, and transparency. Leader ambiguity during crises destabilizes the entire team and sinks morale.

Empathetic Leadership’s Roadmap

Change is possible, and progress is certain if we listen and grow together. We challenge you to use this whitepaper as a mirror to reflect on your own organizational dynamics. We invite you to step into discomfort, confront the behaviors that undermine synergy, and ask the tough questions alongside your team.
